অস্ট্রেলিয়ান সাইক্রিয়াটিস্ট সিগমুন্ড ফ্রয়েড সর্বপ্রথম ইগো শব্দটি দ্বারা মানুষের এক মানসিক অবস্থার একটি স্তর মানবজাতির কাছে ব্যাখ্যা করেন। তাঁর মতে মানুষের ব্যক্তিগত পরিচয়,অহম এবং অধিসত্তা এই তিনটি উপাদানের দ্বারা ব্যক্তিত্ব গড়ে ওঠে। 

একজন সুস্থ মানুষের আত্মমর্যাদা বা অহংবোধ থাকা স্বাভাবিক। কিন্তু যখন এই অহংবোধ গর্বে পরিণত হয় তখন ই তা ইগোর রূপ নেয়। যার সাথে মিশে থাকে অতি অহঙ্কার এবং আত্মকেন্দ্রিক ও স্বার্থপর উচ্চাকাঙ্খা।

                    ইগো যদিও খুব ছোট একটা শব্দ কিন্তু যে কোন সম্পর্ককে শেষ বা ধ্বংস করতে যথেষ্ট। ইগোতে মানুষের আত্মমর্যাদা এত বেড়ে যায় যে সেই ব্যক্তি কখনো সত্যকে মেনে নিতে পারে না। এই ইগোর চাপে আমাদের কাছের সম্পর্ক গুলো  ও একে একে হারিয়ে যায়। সম্পর্কে ঝগড়া, অভিমান থাকা খুবই স্বাভাবিক। দিনের শেষে যাদের ছাড়া আমাদের চলবে না যাদের সাথে রাগ করে আমরা শান্তিতে বাঁচতে পারব না তাদের সাথে  ইগো দেখিয়ে কি হবে? আমরা যদি একটু ভালবেসে আমাদের কাছের লোকগুলোর সাথে  ইগো না দেখিয়ে মিষ্টি করে সরি বলে তাদের কাছে টেনে নেই তবে সম্পর্ক গুলো হয়ত নষ্ট হয় না। তবে এই মানসিকতা উভয় পক্ষেরই থাকতে হবে। 

             তবে এটাও ঠিক কোন মানুষ যখন দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে কষ্ট পেতে থাকে তখন সে বাধ্য হয় পালটাতে।তাই সে নিজের মত করে বাঁচতে চায়। হয়ত তখনি তার মনে ইগোর জন্ম নেয়। 

                                               ইগো নিয়ে আজ এলিনা ও রাহুলের ছোট একটি গল্প। 

       এলিনা ও রাহুল দুজনই তখন নবম শ্রেণিতে পড়ত । যদিও ওদের স্কুল আলাদা ছিল কিন্তু এক সাথেই সব বন্ধুরা মিলে একজন গৃহ শিক্ষকের কাছে পড়তে যেত। দুজনই পড়াশোনায় বেশ ভাল ছিল। এলিনা যেমন খুব কম কথা বলত রাহুল ও ঠিক তেমনি কম কথা বলত। ওদের দুজনেরই দুজনকে ভাল লাগত। কিন্তু কেউ কখনো প্রকাশ করেনি। 

          রাহুল মাধ্যমিকের পর অন্য শহরে পড়তে গেল। এলিনা তার আগের স্কুলেই পড়ত। ছুটিতে রাহুল এলে যখন তার বন্ধুদের সাথে দেখা করতে আসত তখন এলিনার সাথে ও তার দেখা হত। এলিনা এখন কলেজে জীব বিজ্ঞান নিয়ে পড়ে। এলিনার  এখন আগের থেকে অনেক পালটে গেছে। এখন সে কলেজে সবার সাথেই বন্ধুর মত মিশে। সবার সাথেই খুব হাসি ঠাট্টা ও মজা করতে পারে। 

             রাহুল একবার ছুটিতে বাড়ি এসে এলিনার কলেজে এলো বন্ধুদের সাথে দেখা করতে। রাহুল এবার ঠিক করে এসেছিল এবার এলিনাকে মনের কথাটা বললে। এইদিকে এলিনা ও রাহুলের জন্যে অপেক্ষা করছিল। রাহুলের এলিনা ছাড়া সবার সাথে দেখা হল। হঠাৎ রাহুল বাড়ি ফেরার পথে দেখতে পেল এলিনা তার ক্লাসের একজন ছেলে নিরুর সাথে ক্লাসের বাইরে দাঁড়িয়ে খুব হাসি মজা করে কথা বলচ্ছে। এলিনার এক বান্ধবী তাকে ডাকল রাহল এসেছে জানাতে এলিনা শুনতে পেল না। তা দেখে রাহুলের খুব অভিমান হল। এলিনা............।

English Translation

      Australian psychiatrist Sigmund Freud was the first to explain the word ego to mankind a level of the mental state of man. According to him, personality is formed by the three elements of human identity, ego, and dominance.

     

       It is normal for a healthy person to have self-respect. But when this self-respect becomes pride, it takes the form of ego. Which is accompanied by extreme arrogance and self-centered and selfish ambitions.

    Ego though is a very small word but enough to end or destroy any relationship. In ego, the self-respect of a person increases so much that a person can never accept the truth. Under the pressure of this ego, our close relationships are also destroyed. It is very normal to have quarrels and pride in a relationship. At the end of the day, we can't live without those who are angry with us, we can't live in peace without them, then What will happen to those by showing ego? If we say sorry and do not show the ego of those people whom we love, then the relationship may not be ruined. But this mentality must be on both sides.

  But it is also true that when a person suffers for a long time, he is forced to change. So he wants to live like himself. Maybe that's when Igo was arise in his mind.

                                       A short story of Elena and Rahul about ego.

Elena and Rahul were both in ninth grade then. Although their school was different, but all the friends went to study together with a home tutor. Both were quite good at studying. Rahul and Elena both spoke very little. Both of them are very good and polite. They both like each other. But no one ever revealed.

      Rahul went to study in another city after a secondary exam for further study. Elena went to her previous school. When Rahul came on holiday to visit his friends, he also used to meet Elena. Elena is now studying biology in college. Elena has changed a lot from now on. Now Elena mingled with everyone in college like a good friend. He could laugh, joke, and have fun with everyone.

     Rahul once came home on holiday and came to Elena's College to meet friends. This time Rahul decided to say everything to Elena that was on his mind. Meanwhile, Elena was also waiting for Rahul. Rahul met everyone except Elena. Suddenly Rahul saw Elena standing outside the class with one of her classmates, Niru, laughing and talking. One of Elena's friends called Elena to told her that Rahul had come, but Elena could not hear. Seeing that, Rahul became very angry.
